This program includes photo identification cards complete with the
child's vital information. Even the child's fingerprints are included
on the card that is to be carried by the parents in the event it is
ever needed.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has stated
that a current photo is the single most important tool in the
recovery of a missing child. The program also includes safety rules
for the families to review together, rules that educate children on
how to recognize and react to dangerous situations and stay safe.
These masterials are always distributed free of charge. Child
Watch never wants a parent to pass by an event because they
don't have any money that day to help protect their children.

Child Watch is funded primarily through major corporate sponsors
like Shell Oil. In addition to the Kidguard Safety Program, Child
Watch also distributes pictures of missing children and works with
law enforcement agencies all over the country. Child Watch even
has an investigative branch that not only responds to tips received
on our toll free hotline, but continues investigations on cases that
have little or no leads, long term cases that law enforcement has
abandoned. In some cases, Child Watch even provides financial
assistance to the parents of missing children.

All of the services offered by Child Watch are provided free of
charge. Over the last 13 years, we're proud to say more than 180
children have been recovered because of these efforts.
Child Watch was formed in 1993,
with the primary focus to work with
parents and children in helping to
prevent abductions through the
distribution of the Kidguard Safety
Program.
"Scoop"

Children's author Julia Cook
contacted our President Don
Wood about a book she had
written called "Scoop.” Julia
asked if Child Watch would be
interested in writing a forward
for the book. Don Wood was so
impressed with Julia's passion
for the issue an exciting new
relationship formed. Julia
wanted to include some safety
rules from Child Watch to help
parents and educators teach
children about " Scoopers".

Julia is now working with Don on
some new books to educate
and inform children and their
parents. Check back for new
updates.
A Note to Parents and Educators:

There are some topics that we wish we never had to discuss with our children,
abduction being one of them. Of course, we can choose to ignore the issue
and simply hope it never happens. Another approach is to never let our children
out of our sight. No one can advocate either of these strategies.

Most parents are eager to learn a simple and effective way to help protect their
children from “Scoopers.” When I was a child my parents told me not to take
candy from strangers or get in a car with someone I didn’t know. They had
limited knowledge of the is Nsue as did many other people. I can’t ever
remember hearing about a missing child as I was growing up. Today, the
media have brought the issue to the public, for better, and for worse.

Parents constantly ask me, what do I need to do? Today, we need to empower
our children with skills that will build their self confidence in dealing with
dangerous situations. We have to be careful not to tell our children that the
world is full of scary people. Unfortunately, the news media does that for us.
Rather, children need to know that most adults they encounter in their lives are
basically good people. Parents and educators need to make child safety part of
their everyday life by practicing and reviewing basic safety skills.

This book is an excellent way to start the dialogue and to open up our children&
rsquo s minds to the issue of luring prevention. Author Julia Cook has
presented this subject in a manner that children will relate to. This book should
be used as a tool to teach, renew, and practice the skills children need to know
to keep them safe.

The child is usually the last line of defense against the Scooper!

Thanks, Julia for working with us to help keep our children safe!
